It feels like sacrilege to be down on a tournament at Pebble Beach but I cannot help but feel underwhelmed by the whole event. The Pro-Am element make the rounds tortuously slow and the coverage is usually diabolical. With the top of the market likely to dominate it becomes hard to must much enthusiasm. Enter Lanto Griffin.
The 29-year-old probably won’t make it to Sunday, sparing us the pain of watching but if he does interest will be heightened by his odds. The world number 340 has enjoyed something of a journeyman career taking in the LatinoAmerica Tour and the Web.com Tour but he won on both and a strike-rate of 2/58 is good for a professional golfer.
This is obviously a massive step-up in class but his win last year at the Nashville Open kicked off a run of good form and two weeks ago he impressed with a T12 at the Farmers Insurance Open. There have been surprise winners of this event before, so why not Griffin.
1pt e/w Lanto Griffin at 400/1 Coral (7 places; 1/5 odds)
