Genesis Open – betting tips 23

A strong field lines-up for the Genesis Open this week played on the classic layout of Riviera Country Club. It’s easy to make a case for anyone near the top of the market but we saw with Ted Potter last week how players can win from leftfield and i’m going that way again with Sung Kang.

The South Korean can be described as streaky at best, he missed nine cuts last year but he also went close on a number of occasions. The 30-year-old put himself in the mix at the Phoenix Open, Houston Open, Texas Open and CIMB Classic in 2017 and although he faltered under pressure at least he’s getting into those positions.

Kang is 3/3 in cuts made at Riviera with finishes of 72-8-22 and ranked 49th in adjusted scoring average last season. He is the type of player who will pop-up in a big tournament this season.

1pt e/w Sung Kang at 200/1 Coral (7 places; 1/5 odds)

Probably giving him the kiss of death but on current form I’m going to go with Big Phil.
He’s playing really well and although getting on in years, and up against the ‘young guns’ on tour, another win might be due here.
As usual plenty have chances so looking for e/w value I’m also going for another player showing signs of returning to form,Jimmy Walker.
Finally 80/1 for Hoffman to big to ignore.

    Phil Mickelson………..22/1
    Jimmy Walker…………70/1
    Charley Hoffman…….80/1

    my stand outs
FRL pair BJORK into VEGAS into outright LANGASK ( 60’s is large with 365)
FRL treble BJORK into KO into MEDIATE
FRL KINHULT into outright KO and outright VEGAS (125-1 seems high) if only he can cut out the bad last rounds
shake it up over 4 events

      Yup Dodger
I rarely keep backing players until they win but Alex Noren is one of them in The States. Always over priced on The PGA. Surely he will win one day on The American continent. Have the bookies not taken notice of The Farmers Insurance? Stay with him.

Very good weekend last weekend – Money on Rumford 1RL and 3 full places for Reavie, Streelman and Brown = something like a 60/1 winner if you added the places together price wise.

    This week EWs
    Streelman – 80/1
    Hahn – 80/1
    Laird – 100/1
    McGirt – 110/1
    Armour – 200/1
    Cook – 100/1
    Bryan – 150/1

    1RL
    Harkins – 90/1
    List – 80/1
    Stanley – 80/1
    Hahn – 80/1

I know they are pretty popular picks but i can’t go past:
    Big Phil Mickleson $27
    Paul Casey $31

Big Phil on the up again this season. Has he got one more major in him down the track? Casey the most consistent player without winning. Hasn’t missed a cut in ages. Cmon Casey you’re too good not to win a PGA event somewhere since 2009.

I love this event and this course especially the 6th and 10th holes.
I won a chunk on DJ last year in this and although he won so easily after backing him at 11/1 I find it hard to go in again at less than half those odds when there is more pressure to defend.
I was going to back Rory but having watched him last week ive found it hard to have cash on him in this especially after the 4 putt from 15 feet, watch him hose up now.
The majority of my bets this week are outsiders with bits and pieces of course or current form.

    Alex Noren 50/1
    Keegan Bradley 80/1
    Kevin streelman 90/1
    Martin laird 100/1
    Patrick Rodgers 110/1
    Kyle Stanley 125/1
    Jonny Vegas 125/1

    Top 20 double Noren – laird 12/1

    As always good luck all.

Well done Alex. I wanted to back bubba this week but when I drilled down in the the stats I just couldn’t. Some times it’s better going with instincts. At least you kept the faith and it paid off.
