Dubai Desert Classic – betting tips 30

It’s a big ask to expect Nacho Elvira to record his first European Tour win in a tournament of this stature but there have been four different Spanish winners in the last eight years and the winner isn’t always the obvious name.

The 30-year-old had a couple of near misses last year and was in contention at the half-way stage of last years Desert Classic before a pair of weekend 72s dropped him to T11.

Solid throughout the bag, last season he ranked in the top-60 for scoring average, driving distance and GIRs on tour. Putting is the problem and has prevented him getting over the line but he did win four times on the Challenge Tour so isn’t one to  write off from a win perspective.

A T20 in the SA Open is tempered by a missed cut in Abu Dhabi but i’ve seen enough from Nacho to suggest he will pop-up at some stage this season; almost certainly at a good price.

1pt ew Nacho Elvira at 200/1 Bet365

Another birdie fest beckons in the desert this week. Probably -20 should be close to win it.
Another minefield to pick the winner and players currently in form catch my eye along with a Spaniard who has done me a few favours in the past. My main bet, pardon the low odds…
    Henrik Stenson…….12/1
    Rafa Cabrera Bello..30/1
    Alexander Levy……..50/1

My main bets are Schneiderjans at 50s in Farmers and Hatton at 25s in Desert Classic and the each way double.

Not going out too much on a limb at either event as I think the cream will rise this week.

    Stenson 12/1
    Fitzpatrick 22/1

    Rose 16/1

Nice touch Pigpen was on him a week too soon myself – think Fran had him aswell but posted it in last weeks column – Well done again – did Rory bottle it???
